Chris is a UK-trained plastic surgeon with expertise in all aspects of plastic surgery including hand and wrist surgery, cosmetic surgery, skin cancer surgery and breast surgery. Chris graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School in the UK in 2001. He undertook his junior surgical and plastic surgical training in several London teaching hospitals before completing his senior plastic surgical training in Exeter and Bristol in Southwest England.

In 2015 he completed a year of higher specialist training in Hand and Wrist Surgery with the Victorian Hand Surgery Associates at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He was able to learn all aspects of hand surgery from world-leading experts. Consequently, he is well versed in the full breadth of hand and wrist surgery and is excited to offer his expertise to Northland.

Beginning in 2016 he completed another year of higher specialist training in Microsurgery at Leeds General Infirmary in the UK. Here he also gained further training in congenital hand deformities and was also fortunate enough to be involved in the national hand transplant programme which was based in Leeds.  In 2017 he also undertook higher specialist training in cosmetic surgery at the prestigious London Clinic. Here he honed his skills in facial plastic surgery techniques, aesthetic breast surgery and body contouring such as abdominoplasty and liposuction. In 2017 Chris was awarded the European Diploma in Hand Surgery.

At the end of his training, Chris took up consultant plastic surgeon posts at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and then Wexham Park Hospital in the UK for 4 years before coming to New Zealand in March 2021 and taking up a post as consultant plastic surgeon at Whangārei Hospital, Northland. Since March 2021, Chris has worked alongside David Crabb at both Whangārei Base Hospital and Northland Plastic Surgery.

Working closely with David Crabb for one year has permitted a smooth handing over of patients as David moved into retirement. This has also allowed Chris to continue important work that David started providing lipomodelling (fat transfer) as a means of treating women who have had previous silicone implants removed from their breasts or indeed are seeking augmentation with their own tissue rather than implants.

Chris is a keen teacher and has regularly been part of the invited faculty on national and international courses training the next generation of surgeons.
